In the early 1940s, the Albanian singer [a=Ajdin Asllan] started both the [l=Me Re Record Co.] and [l=Balkan Phonograph Records] labels, forming a partnership with the Bulgarian violinist [a=Nick Doneff] and, for a short time, the Greek accordionist John Gianaros. Both labels produced songs from the Balkan countries. In the early 1950s, when the [l=Balkan Phonograph Records] label switched to LP and 45rpm single production, it shortened its name to Balkan.
