Delta Funktionen is an artist driven by stories and concepts. Using technical skill and a well informed background - in part thanks to his time working in Leeuwarden record shop Deeptrax - he calls on techno, electro, breaks and IDM sounds to conjure up musical mind movies that take you to the outerworld. For that reason, he is a regular all over Europe, the States, the Far East and Australia at esteemed clubs like Concrete, Tresor and Fabric. After formerly being a resident at Amsterdam venues Trouw and Shelter, he continued with a steady residency at Tresor in Berlin. The Dutchman’s always cinematic DJ sets keep you on your toes rather than stuck in one place, and do so by calling on a number of different colours and emotions. Importantly, though, they also retain an important sense of fun. This raw and edgy approach carries over into the studio, where Delta Funktionen has cooked up three full length albums and many EPs that focus on hardware set-ups and are informed by sci-fi imagery, political overtones and conceptual back stories. Often focusing on two or three bits of gear for each project, he always evolves with each new release, which keeps both himself and his fans guessing as to what might come next. The differing concepts and artwork with each release makes them standalone propositions with their own identities. Releases of his solo project, which spans from dub techno to electro, have been issued on iconic labels like Delsin, Field Records, Shipwrec, Dynamic Reflection, Mord and Niels' own label, Radio Matrix. A place that also releases music from little known but talented artists with their own stories to tell. It’s a label that is about personal relationships and encourages artists to step out of their comfort zones, much like the boss himself has been doing throughout his storied career. In 2019, Niels teamed up with Diana Napirelly. Together they converged in the joint project Immediate Proximity. A year later, their debut album "2334" was released on the Radio Matrix sub-label IMPROX - a response from the duo to times of isolation and uncertainty, depicting an utopian future world where machines, victorious over humanity, merge in ecstatic ritual dances. IMPROX operates as a space where genres mutate to new lifeforms. The project's development did not take long: today, Immediate Proximity's discography includes several releases, each exploring uncharted mutations of sound at the intersection of electro, techno, bass, and breaks. Extraterrestrial soundscapes, hard beats and futuristic energy are the main identifiers of Immediate Proximity's musical universe.
