DJ, producer, sound designer, dedicated perfectionist: Bertran van den Hoff has been honing his tense, moody signature since he first fell in love with the dark designs of late 90s tech-driven underground drum & bass. Committed to the dark art of studio-craft for over a decade, and even longer learning the psychology of the dancefloor and the language of mix alchemy as a DJ; he has played across the world from Fabric London to the Great Wall of China via multiple Noisia Invites appearances. He’s also released music on a wide range of respected, agenda-setting imprints such as Flexout, Noisia's Invisible, Dispatch, Critical Music, and Playaz. Years of deep fine-tuning. Understanding the science of sonics. Really knowing the sound, textures and grooves he wants to bring into the world… All these things and more have led to a consistency and high benchmark in everything he does. This could be one of his ever-growing body of collaborations with Amoss; his recent explorations into techno with The Futurist; any of the high levels of intoxicating, spacious hip-hop influenced halftime in his work; it could even be his dapper moustache… Nothing leaves the Fre4knc laboratory until he knows he’s done himself, the groove and the movement justice. The very same can be said for his DJ sets; dramatic tech narratives that cover the board progressively and dynamically, they probe deep into the three decades of bass culture he’s been entrenched in his entire adult life.
