Sami Dee/Bud Munk was born on the small island of Bahrain in 1979, his early musical influences were 80s breakdance beats, Micheal Jackson, and old Bob Marley records. After moving to the u.k. (Morecambe) in 1987 it wasn't long before Dee was introduced to hip hop, acid house and rave music, artists such as the Wu Tang Clan, 808 State and Sasha were popular on the underground scene at the time. In '93 Dee started DJing at house parties, and his musical taste shifted as he began to gravitate towards u.s. house, mix tapes by Graeme Park, Roger Sanchez and Armand Van Helden were amongst favourites. The Hacienda in Manchester, and Cream in Liverpool became frequent destinations for Dee and friends during 1995, however, in '96 he listened to a DJ Sneak mix tape that introduced him to underground Chicago house. The jackin' house sound of Chicago had a big impact on Dee, and he began to draw inspiration from Chi-town DJs/producers such as Derrick Carter, Mark Farina and Green Velvet. Shortly after turning 19 Dee moved to London. During his four year stay in the capital he became recognised as a talent, this resulted in DJing appearances at the Ministry of Sound, the infamous Dogstar in Brixton, and a feature in DJ mag. Dee also met and performed alongside some of the producers that have inspired him over the years, including Rob Mello, Luke Solomon, Derrick Carter and Sneak, most of whom he bumped in to at nights such as Space@Bar Rumba, Fabric, and the Classic Records parties at The End. Since 2005 Sami Dee has been based in Huddersfield, where he continues to DJ at nights such as HOOKED and MONO_CULT (Leeds). He has also made the cross over in to production, and aims to release his own deep beats in 2009.
