Hailing from the township of Mamelodi East, in Pretoria, Phadishi Mokwele and Thabang Makhafola are two very young music producers (20 and 21). These last years, they’ve been building a new style of Amapiano with their friends GemValleyMusiQ. They call their sound Rough Amapiano, their own take on the now hugely successful Amapiano South-African genre. Rough Amapiano drops the the soulful vibe and warm synths of classic Amapiano to make room to harder, sometimes unpredictable and arhythmic drum patterns, and percussive, toxic-sounding basslines. It's coming from the future, and this is now out on PSSNGR, a new label dedicated to emerging African electronic.
